Thumb Arcade is sponsoring a modified speed-hack session at Beaver BarCamp 8. There are two scenarios (complete details covered at the session) to get your creativity into overdrive. You could walk away with some serious glory, and maybe find yourself plunked down in a funded startup!

FOCUSED HACK GROUP 1

Java-Unscripted: A Real-World Challenge If you think you know API’s and Javascript (ex: Node.js, Handlebars.js, Underscore.js and/or JQuery), then bring your A-game. We’re going to try and solve/expedite a long-running problem with the use of some helpful new technology (some available and some that needs to be built).

Interests/Skillsets: API’s – Twitter, Klout, Twilio; Javascript coding; JS toolkits; Social Networking; Mobile

FOCUSED HACK GROUP 2

The Future Is Here, I Have Pictures To Prove It If mobile is your thing, and you’ve got a flair for (or interest in) augmented reality then your skills are needed. This concept pairs available bits of tech into a new, novel mobile app. Photos stopped being “real” a long time ago. Let’s make them even more fun and interesting together.

Interests/Skillsets: Geofencing with or without services/API’s like – Maponics, Location Labs or Geoloqi; Augmented reality on mobile, with or without tools like - Metaio, 3DAR.us or Total Immersion; HTML5 for mobile or xCode/Android Java skills

Rules

Teams will be established based on which group you want to participate in. It is unlikely that a complete, working app will be produced, so be prepared to show/explain work-in-progress, methodology, predicted outcome, etc. This is an open, brainstorming, creative session so we recommend you do not participate if you are under any current NDA’s that would prohibit you.
